United Nations:
The United Nations was an international peace-keeping organisation that replaced the League of Nations with a stronger, more developed version. Long discussions were held and agreements signed determining how it should intervene and apply to countries. The eventual outcome stated the primary goal to:
''To save succeeding generations from the scourges of war, which twice in our lifetime has brought untold sorrow to mankind, and to reaffirm faith in
fundamental human rights, in the dignity and worth of the human person, in the equal rights of men and women and of nations large and small, and to establish conditions under which justice and respect for the obligations arising from treaties and other sources of international law can be maintained, and to promote social progress and better standards of life in larger freedom."
The opinion on whether or not this has been full-filled varies from person to person, and violations have occurred that have gone beyond the U.N since its creation, however the U.N members have generally settled threatening disputes peacefully and have avoided many possible wars.
